Calculate your exact age in years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds using our Age Calculator.
Age Calculator
The way a person’s age is calculated can vary across cultures. This calculator uses the most common system, where age increases on a person’s birthday. For example, someone who has lived for 3 years and 11 months is considered 3 years old, and their age will become 4 on their next birthday. This is the standard system in most Western countries.
In some cultures, age may be counted differently, sometimes including or excluding the current year. For instance, a twenty-year-old may also be described as being in their twenty-first year of life. In one traditional Chinese system, a person is considered 1 year old at birth, and their age increases at the Traditional Chinese New Year rather than on their birthday. For example, a baby born one day before the New Year would be considered 2 years old just two days later, even though they are only 2 days old.
Sometimes, the months and days calculated by this tool can be slightly confusing, especially when the start date falls at the end of a month. For example, calculating from February 20 to March 20 is clearly one month. But from February 28, 2022, to March 31, 2022, there are two possible approaches:
- Counting from February 28 to March 28 as one month → resulting in 1 month and 3 days.
- Considering February 28 and March 31 as month ends → resulting in 1 month.
Both methods are reasonable. This discrepancy arises from the varying number of days in different months. Our calculator uses the first method for consistency.
